Dr Anthony Fong
Professional Bio
Dr Anthony Fong is a comprehensive general Ophthalmologist with interests in Cataract surgery, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Adult Strabismus and Glaucoma.
Dr Fong graduated from a Bachelor of Optometry in 2001 at UNSW. After working in private optometric practice, he returned to University of Queensland to complete his MBBS in 2006. He completed general medical training and later ophthalmology training in 2016.
In 2017 he completed a fellowship year at the Princess Alexandra Hospital gaining experience in cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery and anterior segment surgery, after which he became an ophthalmology consultant at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and the Gold Coast University Hospitals.
Deciding to subspecialise in Neuro-Ophthalmology, Dr Fong travelled to Birmingham in 2019 on the Topham Scholarship to complete a sub-speciality Fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham - one of the largest centres for Neuro-ophthalmic care in the United Kingdom.
Dr Fong has been involved in research on Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, and has published neuro-ophthalmology articles in JAMA ophthalmology and the Journal of Neuro-ophthalmology.
He currently holds public consultant positions at the RBWH, PAH and the Gold Coast University Hospitals practising in the areas of neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma and general ophthalmology. He is also director of ophthalmology services at the Redland hospital. He is committed to the training of future ophthalmologists through supervision and education of medical students and ophthalmology registrars.
Dr Fong practices privately in Brisbane at the Eastside Eye Specialist Care at Carindale and the Southside Eye Centre at Upper Mt Gravatt.
